David Phillips

Baritone  (Guest Performer)

David John Phillips is a Swindon-born baritone who, upon receiving a scholarship in 2013, began an undergraduate degree in Vocal and Operatic Studies at Birmingham Conservatoire. Now in his third year, David receives expert vocal tutelage from Gordon Sandison (baritone) and has taken lead roles in the conservatoire's opera productions.
 
External courses in which David has participated include a Welsh National Youth Opera course led by Mary King (President of AOTOS) and Abingdon School for Solo Singers founded by Henry Herford. He has performed as a soloist across the country taking roles such as Aeneas (Dido and Aeneas), Adonis (Venus and Adonis), Demetrius (A Midsummer Night's Dream - scenes) and Polyphemus (Acis and Galatea) in which he understudied and covered for internationally acclaimed opera star, Donald Maxwell. 
 
In concert, David has performed many oratorio solos as part of full works including Dream of Gerontius (Elgar), Requiem (Faure) and St. John's Passion (Chilcott) alongside many highly respected soloists. David also boasts a wide repertoire of English, German and French art song.
 
David has previously studied with Janice Thompson (Chair, AOTOS) and Henry Herford alongside less frequent tuition from other leading professionals.
