Haishan Shen
Bass-Baritone (Guest Performer)
Shane Haishan Shen was born in China. Shen graduated from Sichuan Conservatory of Music with a double Bachelor of Music degree, major in vocal performance and stage performance. Shen is currently pursuing his Masters of Music Degree at Birmingham Conservatoire major in Vocal performance, under the guidance of Gwion Thomas.
Shen has sung several main roles in different operas, including Figaro in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Leporello in Mozart's Don Giovanni and Theseus in Benjamin Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream. In 2015, He created the role of Qadim in Ava's wedding by Michael Wolters in the world premiere.
Shen received a number of scholarships and awards from China. Before he entered Sichuan Conservatory of Music, he had received the First Prize Scholarship as the best student in the principal study for six consecutive years from the Affiliated High School of the Conservatory. During his studies at the Conservatory, he won the first prize in Baroque opera competition and received the top student scholarships for four consecutive years. He was the first prize winner of Yunnan preliminary round of Talent Young Singers Contest.
